Becoming a manager

by Jay

Some people think they want to move into management.

Then they realize they just inherited:

– more stress
– less recognition
– more responsibility
– dependency on others for success

..and the salary increase just doesn’t seem worth it.

Others figure out that they:

– love to serve
– want to help others grow
– thrive on solving problems across depts

..and there’s no looking back.

Managing people is a totally different job from whatever it was that got you there.

In the immortal words of Ted Lasso to Nathan Shelley who thinks Ted is replacing him as the team’s kit man:

“Nate-dog you ain’t been fired… It’s worse. You’ve been promoted!”

Tell me about your biggest lesson learned transitioning from individual contributor into management.
